INSTALLATION / FITTING:
What
tools do I need to properly install the Mystic Rainwater Collection
System?
A ruler or tape measure is needed to measure a 6” section
on the downspout for cutting.
A cutting tool, such as a
hand saw or power rotary tool is needed to cut-out the measured section. Eye and hand protection are recommended when installing the
Mystic. In addition, a small piece of cardboard between the downspout and the house is strongly
recommended when cutting in order to avoid
damage to the siding. Watch out for sharp burrs when removing the
downspout section.
What if I have trouble cutting the downspout?
Make sure the downspout is secured to the house both
above and below where installing
the Mystic. Local hardware stores, home centers or plumbing wholesalers can provide strapping products and fasteners.
How do I install the bottom section securely?
When determining the location of the Mystic and the collection barrel we recommend that the downspout
cut is made away from any screws or
bolts gthat may already be in place.
The bottom portion of
the Mystic needs to “seat” all the way into the downspout section to avoid the possibility of leaking.
The hose provided is too big. Can I cut it to a smaller
length? Will eliminating
length impact the performance of the Mystic?
To remove the bends in the hose created during packaging and shipping, place it
in a warm room or direct sunlight and wait about 15 minutes.
To improve the flow of the Mystic, avoid installing the hose with a lot of kinks.
Depending on the distance between the Mystic and your collection container,
the hose can be assembled with some bending. Avoiding sharp kinks helps to eliminate
problems with the flow properties. The hose can also be cut to an appropriate length
with scissors or a knife.
Do you need to solvent weld or tape the Mystic to the downspout for it to be
secure and work properly?
No, the Mystic does not require any solvent welding or tape to
secure it to the downspout. The pieces fit snuggly inside and around
the outside of the existing downspout.
What if my downspout is bigger than 2”x3”?
Currently, we only offer Mystic for 2”x3” downspouts. We do not
recommend the 2”x3” Mystic for use on round downspouts or 3”x4”
downspouts.
Is Mystic offered in different colors.
Currently, Mystic is only offered in white but can be painted to
match the color of the house, siding and downspout.

BARRELS:
What
size hose is included with Mystic, and how does this impact my
collection container?
The Mystic comes with a 4-foot long high-flowing hose that is 1-1/4”
in diameter. To catch the greatest amount of water, you may chose to cut a 1-1/4” hole in the container and connect the hose directly to a fitting (attached to the container)
for a tighter more secure connection. Fittings can be purchased at your local hardware
store or may come with your collection container. The hose can also be positioned
to discharge water directly into the container through a debris screen or via direct
positioning without the use of a secured fitting.
What is needed to connect the Mystic to a rain barrel ?
The Mystic supply hose attaches to most rain barrels with the use of
a 1-1/4" barbed hose fitting. This fitting can be found at local hardware stores, home centers
or plumbing wholesalers.
Are all barrel styles compatabile with the Mystic?
Mystic can be used with most rain barrels. However, because there are many manufacturers,
we cannot guarantee the Mystic will
work with all container styles.
USAGE:
What happens when the collection container is full?
Once the collection container is full, Mystic's unique design allows water
to flow back through the diverter and down the downspout eliminating the need for
any
special attention.
Do I need to do anything with Mystic during cold weather months? Can
I leave it in the downspout during the winter?
Mystic can be kept in the downspout regardless of the weather
conditions. For cold weather areas, regular freeze and thaw cycles will have no impact on the product. We recommend that the hose be removed from the collection barrel.
How should the red plug be used.
The red plug can be used
in the winter months to stop the flow of water to the collection
container - which will direct water down the gutters and out into the sewers. |
